Patient population being covered:

Pediatric patients who have completed the ER work-up and are awaiting a floor bed or PICU bed or transfer that

require initial and some ongoing care while holding in the ED.

Pediatric patients that arrive in the ED during the overnight hours.

Depending on the patient acuity and dispo plan, the Pediatric ED physician, Adult ED physician, Pediatric Intensivist or Pediatric Hospitalist would be involved.

Expectations:-Place basic orders, monitor while awaiting dispo, discharge/transfer orders when appropriate, documentation and communication with the physician. This would likely include following up on labs ordered, starting maintenance fluids after bolus completion, reordering breathing treatments, scheduling home meds or next doses of antibiotics/steroids.
